Cooperative Practices of Belonging

ABOUT ABOUT

What does it mean ‘to belong’ in cooperatives?  How is it different from belonging in conventional businesses?  What are the positive, transformational effects and how can we promote them?  Could practices that may often be ‘exclusionary’ in conventional businesses, such as accounting and budgeting, foster belonging in cooperatives?  What might all this mean for building more inclusive societies?

In this workshop, Alice Bryer, an academic from Royal Holloway, University of London (who specializes in cooperative organizing and accounting practices) will share findings on these questions from her research with cooperatives and social movements in Argentina and Spain.  The workshop aims to enable discussion and reflection that might help us to understand and promote cooperative practices of belonging.
